Towpath Service Project 2012
Quilts for Veterans, V.A. Hospital in Syracuse

Date:  January 12, 2012 meeting           Goal: 50 quilts
How:  We would like to have at least 10 to 13 team captains to recruit 4 to 5 people for their team.
There are 3 ways for you to be involved:
1.       8- 10 Captains and teams to make quilts on January 12, 2012
2.       2 Captains and teams to meet one evening for our working gals or gals who could not come on January  12th to participate.
3.       1 Captain for the Virtual Team for our gals who like to work independently.
If you would like to participate and are not on a team, we will assist in placing you on a team just let us know.

The Quilts:
                Size:              36 x 45” (20, 9” blocks) or 45 x 63” (28, 9” blocks) and for the over achievers among
                                     us 63 x 81” (72, 9” blocks)
Colors:           Any adult appropriate and cheerful colors, blues, greens, rust, yellow, red etc.
Fabric:          Good quality pre-washed fabric since they will need to withstand being washed by the
hospital.  We will need donations of large pre –washed pieces of fabric for the backing.
The Guild will purchase the batting if needed.
Design:         We suggest 3 options Rail Fence, Nine Patch or Friendship Star. Of course you may also choose your own design!
Finishing :    February 14, workshop meeting for individuals to layer, quilt and bind the quilts as
needed.  There will be help with the machine quilting and binding . It is always more fun in
                        with a group.
Labels will be provided for you to sew on the backAll completed quilts are due by June 12, 2012

Team Captains:  Your responsibility is to recruit your team, organize how the team will work together to make the  quilts, obtain batting and backing fabric , if needed from the Chairmen, make sure the quilts are quilted and labeled with labels provided. You will track the progress of the quilts, and provide encouragement and then let us know how many are completed.
We will be happy to answer any of your questions either call or email.
